A stoneware lamp base by American sculptor and ceramsist Waylande Gregory (1905-1971) sporting a soft white linen shade. The vessel is of column form and decorated with stylised figures playing tennis, signed to the base. This piece is an early example of Gregory's hand carved porcelain work, circa 1935.

Provenance: Property from the Collection of Seymour Stein, co-founder of Sire Records and Vice President of Warner Bros. Records. Stein's ceramic collection was vast with a focus on Art Deco pieces generally colourful and humorous.
